RISE 2 Vote: A Projection Show

Native communities still exist and thrive in tribal communities in every direction – here, in the Sonoran Desert, near the Rio Salado river in downtown Phoenix. Maricopa County’s tribal population is estimated by the American Community Survey to account for 40.7% of the 296,000 Native Americans living in Arizona.

Indigenous people can impact votes in their local state elections. This is why it is incredibly important to be VISIBLE, VOCAL, and PRESENT! Democracy is indigenous to our way of life!

We would like to invite you to be a part of this year’s RISE illumination event! We are curating a space to highlight indigenous designs, exploring the ways technology, art and lights can impact the streets. We will be projecting the entries on a building during Phoenix Design Week and again on Indigenous People’s Day. Due to the pandemic, and social distancing measures, the Indigenous People’s Day event will be outdoors and streamed live online.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Submitted designs must be digital. Accepted forms of design include photography, poster art, animated gifs, patterns, and motion graphics with no sound. Accepted file types are mov, mp4, gif for animated files with no more than a 10-sec animation loop; and png, jpeg, jpg for static graphics. The maximum file size should be 100MB.

The submissions will be juried by a panel of community members and creative professionals. The top 3 submissions will be awarded a monetary prize and named the 2020 #Rise2Vote winners!

Rise 2 Vote: A Projection Show is a worldwide event and we encourage entries from all countries and indigenous communities. This is a collaboration of Indigenous designers and the AIGA AZ Phoenix Design Week community. Submission deadline: September 25, 2020 at Midnight (Arizona Time).
